corn cobbing college

The land grant colleges - which are the colleges throughout the country that have a mission to breed plants for the public good - have slowly been marginalized. Land grants now are reduced to performing the desires of the multinational corporations that are now the only people who provide funding.

The same phenomenon can be seen spreading across campuses of higher learning all over our country. The affordable, educational opportunities made available to students at public universities and the broader benefits to the citizens of our nation are being paved over in support of for-profit corporations. Privatize the profits and socialize the costs- Big Bizness is out to rule the world. Perhaps we should begin to move away from the commodification of life being fashioned at our universities by corporations who are using colleges to make money while making our food supply less secure? Maybe we should take control of our own sources of sustenance.

You can read about and listen to more of the above story here.

Not sure how to contact you so I thought this might work...

I just launched my new site, SwitchPlanet.com, and we are currently in private beta while we work the bugs out.

Basic concept...recycle the things you have and no longer need to get the stuff you want all for free(no sign up fees, no transaction fees, no monthly fees, etc.). Because it's free we give members the option to make a donation that goes into our SwitchFund that gets distributed among charities and non-profits. Members can also create profiles and socialize and all that great stuff.

I'm a one man shop, with a dev team, but no funding or marketing "guru" to help get the word out. So I'm looking for some popular blogs to help me reach the masses.

A quick look into the future…I'm looking to add SMS member verification before we come out of private beta and then start rolling out new features like friends and groups as well as branch out into the UK and into other switch-able items like books, tools or whatever else the members ask for during the open beta period.

So I would love it if you could take a look at my site and offer up a review for your readers. If you're interested let me know and I will get you a login ASAP.

I would also like to welcome 100 of your readers to take part in the private beta and of course once we come out of private beta everyone can join at that time.

I'm available for interview to answer any questions you might have.

cheers,
Chris Samarin
